Emoticons instead of kisses: how we express feelings in correspondence

Sometimes one short message can sound cold, but add an emoticon to it and immediately a completely different mood. But what is interesting is that in correspondence on online dating services, the symbols themselves have already become a separate language. They replace confessions, hints and even flirting.

On ukrainian women dating sites, you can find entire dialogues where there are almost no words, only small pictures, and everything is immediately clear: someone is trying to please, someone is joking, and someone confesses their sympathy. But the question is, does everyone read them the same way? For one person, this is a manifestation of tenderness, for another, superficiality and a lack of real emotions.

We often use these symbols to hide real feelings. After all, writing “I miss you” is more difficult than throwing a picture with a hint.
